Great Trailers

I first heard of Car Mate trailers when I purchased a small 4x6 unit from a friend. I loved that little trailer (wish I had it back) and so when I went looking for a new larger unit I didn't even consider any other brand. I purchased a new HD700 7x18 trailer in the summer of 2003. I LOVE this trailer! The dealer was excellent, offering great advice, pricing and delivery. In fact, I loved the dealer so much that in the fall of 2004 I went back and added a Custom Cargo 600 (6x10) to my inventory. Again, a wonderful experience and purchase and I could not be happier with my trailer. I always recommend Car Mate to those who are looking for a new trailer. When people look at my trailers and compare them to what they are currently pulling, they never fail to be impressed and to see the difference in quality. Thank you for building a GREAT trailer!

I purchased a Car Mate Trailer from a dealer in New Jersey in 2005. The trailer was used once to haul household goods from New Jersey to Portland, OR and it has been sitting unused ever since. About six weeks ago the trailer was stolen. My son, who lives in Portland and had all the paperwork on the trailer, was in Thailand. The police were asking questions, such as the VIN # and date of purchase. I had nothing to give the police except the color. I remember submitting my trailer warranty with Car Mate so I called and spoke with Willie Bauer. It wasn’t easy as I did not have much information to give Mr. Bauer to assist in his search of warranty records. But that did NOT stop Mr. Bauer in trying to find the info I needed. Within 30 minutes Mr. Bauer called back with all the information I needed and I passed this on to the Portland police. Last night I received a call from the police. The trailer was located in Southern California. Someone was trying to register the trailer with the California DMV. The trailer is now in the custody of the police department and is mine to pick up. Without Willie Bauer’s help some thieves would have committed the perfect crime. Thank you Mr. Bauer and THANKS to Car Mate for having such dedicated employees. Happy holidays to you all!

The Case for Great Quality

I purchased a 6' x 10' Car Mate Cargo Trailer 19 years ago and made many trips from New York City to Vermont to renovate a property that I purchased. After retiring from the NYPD as a detective, I made my home in Vermont and Florida. I drove by your local dealership and saw a new 7' x 16' HD Car Mate cargo trailer on his lot and thought it was time to upgrade because I had outgrown the old unit. I am a master electrician and over the years I keep acquiring more tools and needed a larger trailer. After all those years of great service, I knew Car Mate was the only trailer for me. The new trailer will make it's first trip to Florida this fall and I know it will give me many years of service. Also, the dealer resold my old 6' x 10' within a couple of days. Thanks for building such a workhorse!

A few months ago I decided to buy a cargo trailer...something that would be large enough to carry my motorcycle and gear, but also one in which I could sleep while traveling to the country's prime motorcycling locales. And, um, the trailer had to be small enough so that my tow vehicle, a V-6 Honda Accord, wouldn't struggle. And, oh yeah, I'm 6'3" and I don't like bending over...like I have to in most cargo trailers. And, lets see, I'd like for it to look custom...not like something that's been sitting in a Home Depot parking lot awaiting sale. An ad in a local publication prompted me to visit one of your dealers, Cap World in Salem, NH, where I was helped by Frank Milani, assistant manager of the dealership. To be honest, the ad that drew me to their dealership was for one of your competitors...for one of the trailers that was the right size (6'x10') and seemed to have the right features. After showing me the advertised trailer, Frank showed me a Car Mate 6'x10' for comparison. As he continued to explain feature by feature, the differences between your trailers and those of your competitors, I realized that it was a dozen little cost cutting measures that made the price of "that other" trailer so low. Clearly, the cost cutting measures would also affect, over time, the structural integrity, water tightness, and resale value of the trailer. Car Mate made no such compromises. In every area, you've chosen the "right way"...not the "cheap way". Well, that day I ordered a custom Car Mate Trailer...spending over twice what I had originally planned. Car Mate's extensive options list made the customizing job easy. Your excellent web site let me see the many options before ordering them...custom wheels, fiberglass vent covers, vinyl floor, walls, and ceiling...RV door...all there on your web site. I even ordered a few last options several weeks after my original order was placed...and your factory representative with whom Frank spoke checked out where my trailer was in the manufacturing process and made sure those last few options could be added. He could have simply said, "It's too late" but, he didn't. He did the extra work, checked things out, and made it happen. Well, I'll tell you, I was really impressed with your company after that. Little did I know that my appreciation of the Car Mate team would soon grow lots more. A few weeks later, my trailer arrived. It is simply...stunning. "It's JUST a cargo trailer...right??" Wrong. For me, the customer, it's the realization of a dream after 30 years of work. The exterior was perfect...jet black with custom polished aluminum sides, a color matched RV door, mag wheels, spring assisted rear ramp door, and gorgeous diamond plate fenders and accents. The workmanship? Impeccable. Unlocking and opening the RV door brought the biggest surprise of all. I'd ordered the checkerboard floor, two roof vents, twin ceiling lights and wall switch, and vinyl walls and ceiling. They were all there...but the workmanship could rival any RV manufacturer in the United States. The seams were all perfectly cut and finished. The interior trim was done, of all things, in gleaming diamond plate. Heck, even the rear ramp spring assist mechanism was completely hidden behind a beautifully crafted cover of lustrous diamond plate. It's almost as if your entire manufacturing crew looked at my trailer as their own...thinking to themselves, "What can we do to make this trailer look even MORE custom, MORE finished?" It's the trailer I would have built if I had the talent. I don't but, thankfully, you folks do. If I lived closer, I'd stop by in person to thank you all for the premium materials and workmanship you lavished on my trailer. For now, though, this letter will have to do. I felt it important to let you know that THIS customer is thrilled...and can't wait for the adventures that lie ahead.

On October 12, 2007 after doing literally hours and hours of research on enclosed trailers, I spoke to Car Mate Director of Sales, Rick Rathfon. Rick was extremely thorough and explained to me about some of the finest qualities Car Mate has to offer. He referred me to my local Car Mate Dealer and on October 20, 2007 I proceeded to custom order a Car Mate Trailer to my specifications. I'm a retired sergeant from the D.C. Metropolitan Police and as I would say to my officers, just because you put on a badge and uniform, that alone doesn't make you a police officer. It takes more than just skills alone. I have just purchased a Car Mate trailer from Hardesty's in Salisbury, PA. It is a 14' cargo van tandem trailer, which I have customized for my personal use. Hardesty's have been very helpful and their technician is very knowledgeable. I am very pleased with the workmanship and attention to detail on this "off the shelf" trailer. To make a long story short, in February I custom ordered a trailer from another manufacturer and when it arrived in April, I rejected it. I reordered much to my regret and rejected the second one also due to workmanship. It is good to know that Car Mate still cares about quality, pride in workmanship, and attention to detail.
